DVMs will request referrals be sent on behalf of pets that need additional, specialized care. This will happen via a follow up and will be tagged to reception.
Reception should carry out the request in the order set by the DVM.
Sometimes, the client will ask the DVM to choose the best option, and we can get a referral sent to that hospital. Other times, the client will want an estimate for services.
If the client or DVM requests estimates, reception is to call the corresponding hospitals and let them know who you are, what kind of pet you're calling about, and what procedure you'd like a ballpark cost on.
After the hospital has been chosen for referral, reception should look up the corresponding website and locate the referral page. Generally, this is under it's own category or under one that is similar to Veterinary Professionals.
Follow the prompts on the forms and send in any corresponding medical records, bloodwork and xrays to the hospital chosen.
See the Practice Manager for more guidance and assistance.
