Below is a timeline and direction of the appropriate way to work up an exam room appointment
Start HappyDoc before entering the room
Knock, walk in, introduce yourself "Hi, my name is _______ and I'll be assisting Dr _____ today. How is (pet) doing?"
Gather medical history for doctor according to reason for visit - if using HappyDoc, it's ok to just ask questions and not type on the computer.
Confirm total cost with client and services to be done
Gather TPR in the room unless pet is aggressive
Cats
Cats carriers should be open when you arrive into the exam room to allow them to come out of their safe space naturally
Make sure there is a blanket in the cat house on the table before the cat is loaded into the room - spray the blanket with Feliway if possible
Cats should not be removed from the room unless absolutely necessary; radiographs, drop off, cysto, etc.
If the cat will not come out of the carrier but is not actively lunging or trying to bite/scratch, unlatch the carrier to get a TPR while the cat is inside their carrier. In most cases, the DVM can also do their exam while the cat is in their carrier if the top is off.
The room is ready for the doctor, and the doctor is ready for your history rundown, when vaccines are pulled up and in the tray, when any diagnostics that could be done are complete, and your TPR and weights are in the computer.
